The Mahilas of Bagan Datoh Branch has gathered hand again to organise Varalakshmi Vrathamu on 12th August 2011 at Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu, Sungai Sumun. The pooja will start at 6.30pm.

Significance of Varalakshmi Vrathamu
Eight forces or energies are recognised and they are known as Sri (Wealth), Bhu (Earth), Sarasvati (learning), Priti (love), Kirti (Fame), Santi (Peace), Tushti(Pleasure) and Pushti(Strength). Each one of these forces is called a Lakshmi and all the eight forces are called the Ashta Lakshmis or the eight Lakshmis of the Hindus. Vishnu is also called Ashta Lakshmi Padhi which is equivalent to saying that he is the asylum for the eight-Lakshmis or forces. In fact, Vishnu representing the preservative aspect of the universe, radiates these forces from him. These forces are personified and worshipped as Lakshmis, since abstract force is beyond the comprehension of the ordinary people. As health, wealth and prosperity depend upon the rythmic play of these forces, the worship of Lakshmi is said to be to obtain these three. Only a woman can sympathise with women. Lakshmi is a woman. So she will more readily sympathise with women. Hence this festival is observed largely by women, invoking the blessings of Lakshmi on them, their husbands and their children.

TAM Foundation's Official Launching and TAM Youth Convention 2011

Telugu Association of Malaysia is set to create another history in Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur on 22nd May 2011. Two mega programs are going to be held on that day.

Firstly, Official Launching of TAM Foundation. This launching program is going to start at 8am and will be completed by YB Dato’ Seri Hishamudin Tun Hussien, the Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister of Malaysia. Here is a brief description about TAM Foundation. Awards will be presented to Telugu children who have excelled in SPM or STPM examinations.

TAM Foundation, a wing under the parent body of Telugu Association of Malaysia (TAM) is a non-profit and non-governmental organization representing Telugu community in Malaysia. Its primary objective is to Foster, Develop and Improve Education and learning of all kinds by establishment and maintenance of scholarships and the provision of interest free study loans or subsidies to deserving scholars among Malaysian Telugus and also other races to enable them to complete their education at schools, colleges, or universities or to enable them to study or to acquire any skill or trade at any vocational or professional institutions or organizations. TAM Foundation will also assist Telugu Association of Malaysia in spreading Telugu education by formal and informal teachings and trainings; the establishment of Telugu Cultural Centers providing Cultural, Moral and Educational Values, Social Welfare, Community Development and Empowerment Programs and services to the Telugu Community in Malaysia; assisting the Malaysian Telugu entrepreneurs in developing their potential in tandem with the growth of the economy and any other purpose consistent with its charitable objects.

Secondly, National Youth Convention 2011. This youth convention is set to be the largest ever gathering of Telugu Youths in Malaysia. This mega event is to be officiated by YB Datuk Seri Shabery Cheek, Youths and Sports Minister of Malaysia and will feature programs as follows;

Golden Jubilee Celebration of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch

It has been 50 years since the establishment of Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch (formerly known as South Perak Branch). Established in 1961, our branch has organised numerous activities ranging from social works, cultural, educational, spiritual and many more activities in line with the mission, vision and objectives of Telugu Association of Malaysia which are mainly to promote, preserve and safeguard the Telugu language, economic, social, cultural and spiritual of the Telugus as well as to provide educational guidance to the Telugus. TAM Bagan Datoh Branch has been the major pillar of strength of Telugu Association of Malaysia and plays an important role in developing the association throughout the years since its establishment.

In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch, we are proud to organise a Golden Jubilee Celebration to commemorate the fifty years of establishment of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch. The details of the celebration are as follows;

మనసున్న మనసు / Forum Hati ke Hati

On 10 April 2011, the Mahila committee of Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh branch organized a “Forum Hati ke Hati” in collaboration with the Teluk Intan Information Department at Sri Venkateswara Alaya Devasthanamu, Sungai Sumun, Perak. The programme started at 9.00 am and garnered the attendance of more than 150 people. Encik Bala, Officer of the Information officiated the function. There were also his team of officers and also officers from the Registry Department of Teluk Intan. Among the officers are Encik Shan, Encik Haris, Encik Hawani and Cik Imma. They had a counseling session with those who were having problems regarding their identification cards and documents. Puan Normah Elizan from the Head Office of the Information Department, Ipoh also attended and supervised the programme. The attendance of YB Dato’ Sharani, ADUN for the Rungkup consistuency made this programme a more successful one. In his speech, he congratulated students who achieved outstanding results in their recent SPM examination. Several games were organized to entertain the audience. Among the games were colouring competition, ‘muggulu’ competition and balloon throwing competition. The programme ended at about 3.00pm.

In conjunction with Ugadhi (Telugu new year), Telugu Association of Malaysia (TAM) donated to two Japan Tsunami Disaster Funds namely ‘The Japanese Tsunami Relief Fund’ and ‘Girls Guides-Maybank Disaster Relief Fund’. Both of the funds received RM 10,000 each. Datuk Seri Sharizat Abdul Jalil, the Women, Family and Community Development Minister of Malaysia accepted the cheques from TAM on behalf of the two funds during a ceremony at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) on 2nd April 2011. Also present was Girl Guides Association of Malaysia KL branch president , Datuk Yeoh Soo Ken.

Apart from that, Datuk Seri Sharizat Abdul Jalil also presented hampers of food and daily necessaries which were donated by TAM to the patients in HKL wards.

Datuk Seri Sharizat Abdul Jalil congratulates and has mentioned that she is proud and happy of Telugu Association of Malaysia because even though Telugus form only a small community in Malaysia, yet they will be among the first to lend their hand to help in such charitable works.

Three Programs in three consecutive days

It has been a hectic weekend for Bagan Datoh branch folks with three programs being organised in three consecutive days. Here is the summary of the three programs.

On Saturday, 2nd of April 2011, TAM National Youths have organised a road show at Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu, Sungai Sumun to explain to the Bagan Datoh branch Telugus about the “TAM Youth Convention” program which is going to be held on 22nd May 2010 at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur. The road show was kicked off with offering of prayers to Sri Venkateswara Swami followed by bhajan and annathanam. Soon after that, Sri Venggataraman, the Youth Leader of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch has welcomed everyone that present in his speech followed by speeches from Sri Ramanaidu, chairman of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch and Sri Mahendra Rao, TAM Youth Chief. The road show then continues with Sri Govin Rao, TAM Youth Deputy Chief’s speech. Sri Govin Rao, who is also the organising chairman of the “Tam Youth Convention 2011” program explained in detail about the convention. Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao, TAM president also delivered his speech. In his speech, he has wished luck to the TAM Youth for their mission of gathering 3,000 Telugu youths for the program. He has also suggested to the TAM Youth to form a TAM Youth Fund by identifying at least one thousand well to do Telugu Youths who are capable of donating RM 1,000 each to the fund. He has also taken the opportunity to congratulate SPM and STPM top scorers from Bagan Datoh Branch. Finally all TAM leaders and ex-leaders were called onto the stage to complete the launching ceremony of the road show.

On Sunday, 3rd April 2011 at 8.30am, TAM Bagan Datoh Branch have organised Motivational Talks for students who are going to sit for UPSR, PMR and SPM examinations. Around 100 students participated in the motivational talk. Few well-knows and experienced teachers took turn in motivating the students by teaching them about the efficient way of studying, time management, preparation for examinations as well as reminding the students of their responsibilities as a student. Four students who have excelled in their SPM and STPM examinations respectively have also shared their secret of success with the students.

Apart from that, there was also a dialog session with District information officer, youths and parents. Some of those who were present took the opportunity to ask and clarify their problems on any matters related with government departments.

On Monday, 4th April 2011 at 7.01am, around 250 people gathered at Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu to celebrate “Ugadhi”, the new year of Telugus. Celebration begins with offering of prayers followed by bhajan. After that, pallaki procession was held followed by dhaatu bhajan by a large group of people. “Annathanam” was served. Without forgetting, delicious food especially Gaarulu, Buurulu, Ponggadalu, Aresulu, Payasam and most importantly Ugadhi Pacchadi were served. We would like to thank all Mahilas who took the trouble to cook the delicious food for us.

On the 3rd of April 2011, Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch in collaboration with the Information Department of Hilir Perak District are organising Motivational Talks for those students who are going to sit for UPSR, PMR and SPM examinations. The motivational talks will start at 8.00am and the venue is Sri Venkateswara Hall, Sungai Sumun. These motivational talks will be conducted by few well experienced teachers and motivators. The main aim of this talk is to motivate students to study efficiently and get excellent results in their respective examinations. There will also be a session where a number of successful students from Bagan Datoh area will share the secret of their success to the students.

Apart from that, there will be also a dialog session for youths and parents which will be conducted by officers from the District Information Department. The main purpose of this dialog session is to enhance parents’ and youths understanding on parental care and their responsibility and role in shaping their children to be a better student in studies and a better person in the community.

Everyone is welcomed to this motivational talk and dialog session.

TAM Youth 1st Meeting on 1.1.11 at 11.11am

The National Youths of Telugu Association of Malaysia have held their first meeting yesterday at Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu, Sungai Sumun. 11.11am and 1.1.11 was chosen as the time and date for the meeting as it is special since it comes only once in thousand years, so the newly elected TAM National Youths would like to make their first meeting for the term to be a significant one and a good start for their mission. Apart from the TAM National Youth Committee Members, another 30 youths from Bagan Datoh, Simpang Empat, Sitiawan and Seremban Branch have participated in the meeting.

In the meeting, Sri Mahendra Rao, TAM Youth Chief with his committee members have introduced their plan which is a “5 Years Plan on TAM Youth Development”. The plan emphasizes on recruiting more than 1000 new youths as TAM life members. Apart from that, he has also mentioned that TAM Youth activities for the next 2 years will give importance to cultural, social and sports activities, youth camp as well as education and career development. All the youths also had an ubhayam at Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu.

On behalf of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch, we would like to wish all the best to the newly elected TAM National Youths Committee Members on their mission in connecting Telugu Youths. TAM MORAL CAMP 2010

Date : 28th November 2010 till 18th December 2010
Venue : Kem Pelangi Hill Resort, Jalan Lembah Air Panas, Kerling, Hulu Selangor
Target Group : Students from the age 10 to 18 years old.

History of Moral Camp
Moral Camp was initiated in a low scale of 25-50 students for a period of two weeks in the year 2003 at Sri Venkateswara Alayamu, Sungai Sumun Perak. It was organized by TAM Bagan Datoh Branch (Formerly known as South Perak Branch) in collaboration with TAM Kulim Branch and TAM Teluk Intan Branch for two years consecutively. Experienced teachers from Bagan Datoh Branch volunteer themselves to guide the students with Telugu language and cultural activities. In the year 2006, Telugu Association of Malaysia has decided to organize the Moral Camp in a bigger scale for a period of three weeks in the national level. Besides the Malaysian teachers, experienced teachers from India were brought in for the purpose. For the year 2006 and 2007, Moral Camp was held in Telugu Samskrutika Nilayamu, Rawang where around 150 students participated. For the year 2008, Moral Camp was successfully held in the biggest scale ever in Kem PLKN Semenyih, Selangor where around 500 students from all over Malaysia participated. Now, TAM has come again with Moral Camp 2010 which is going to be held from 28th November 2010 till 18th December 2010 at Kem Pelangi Hill Resort, Jalan Lembah Air Panas, Kerling, Hulu Selangor.

Awesome, Fantastic, fantabulous. There are still so many words to describe about the recently concluded “Vikruti Sanvatsara Kalaaratri” which was specially brought by TAM Bagan Datoh Branch Youths in collaboration with Telugu Students. The event was held in conjunction with the “An Evening with Prime Minister” event as the last road show. Around 500 people attended the cultural night.

The cultural night was kicked off at around 8.00pm with lighting up of “Theepam” by special guests followed by "Maa Telugu Thalli" song led by Sri Ramachandra Rao. The event continued with an energetic welcoming speech by Sri Venggataraman, Chairman of the TAM Bagan Datoh Branch Youths and Kumari Srivindiya Ramanidu, the student representative. After that, Sri Ramanaidu as the Bagan Datoh Branch chairman, Sri Veera Rao as the TAM Vice-President representing Tam HQ, and Sri Vengkataramana as the TAM National Youth Chief gave their inspiring speeches. Sri Vengkatesulu Paideyah, a long serving Bagan Datoh Branch member was honoured for serving tiredlessly for TAM Bagan Datoh Branch's Youth Wing. Meanwhile, Dato’ Venkateswa, a businessman from Johor has also pledged to donate RM 10,000 for TAM Bagan Datoh Branch children education benefits.

The event continues with cultural and modern performances as well as songs by students. Few well known singers from Bagan Datoh Branch also entertained the crowd with beautiful songs. The performances by students were the highlight for the event. Their exciting and energetic performances were mesmerising and successfully stunned the audience that they were glued to their seats until the end of the event. And the performance that has stunned the audience the most was the song “Aidhurojula Pelli” which shows the typical marriage of Telugus in the form of dance and stage shows. There were also two dances from a group from Sungai Siput and an entertaining performance from two kids. The audience has seen mind blowing performances ranging from old songs up to the latest throughout the cultural night. Lucky draw was also held where few lucky audiences bring back 19 hampers and 15 electrical appliances offered.

The Telugu heritage

They came to work the land over a hundred years ago. Today, they contribute, in many other ways, to the land that has become their home.
LIFE was no bed of roses for the Telugu immigrants who had left Andhra Pradesh, India, for Malaya in the late 19th and early 20th century. Even before daybreak, the labourers would already be hard at work in the rubber and coconut plantations owned by the British.
It was a long way to sail from home, but flood, famine and unemployment had spurred many to seek opportunities in faraway lands.

“The first Telugus arrived in Penang and settled in Bagan Datoh, Perak. Today, they are scattered all across the country (mostly in Johor, Kedah, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Selangor) but the community in Bagan Datoh is still going strong. In fact, we consider it a Telugu heritage area!” says Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao, president of the Telugu Association of Malaysia, a non-profit NGO representing about 500,000 members in the country.
Five generations down the road, it is no longer common for the Telugus to work as plantation workers.
“Hardly anyone is doing what their forefathers did in the past. Today, they might be professionals, teachers or businessmen, or working in the corporate sector.”

Despite changes in lifestyle due to modernisation, the Telugu community in Malaysia takes pride in preserving its heritage, adds Dr Achaiah, 49.
“I feel very proud in leading a community that maintains its cultural values and holds them in high regard. Telugus are known to be very thrifty people and we emphasise respecting our elders.”
Like any other ethnic group, they have their own language, rituals and traditions. Kuchipudi, a fine amalgamation of dance, gestures, speech and song, and Burrakatha, a folk dance that combines story telling with music, both originated from Andhra Pradesh and are still practised by the Telugus here.
“There are wedding ceremonies, ornaments, food and musical instruments that are unique to the community. The women tie their saris in a specific way. We have our own poets, composers and dancers. We have Chiratalu, a stick play accompanied by songs that are specifically composed for it.
"In India, some traditions are disappearing because of modernisation but we are very proud that in Malaysia, we are able to preserve our roots so well.”
In conjunction with the community’s 150 years of history in the country, the association is organising a one-day Telugu cultural and heritage expo on Friday. There will be an array of events and cultural programmes, including a photo exhibition, dance and song performances by local and foreign artistes, movie screenings and food sampling.
“Outside India, this just might be the biggest celebration of its kind,” Dr Achaiah says. “We’ve never had it on such a grand scale and we have spent the whole year preparing for it.”

One of the highlights of the day is a 30-booth exhibition that will walk visitors through the the community’s history in Malaysia. Photographs, videos, sketches, replicas, glass paintings and wooden toys, among other things, will be on display.
The association has been around since 1955 and its priority has always been education.
“Our founders emphasised that and we still focus on this area. Over the last five years we have taught over 3,000 people to read and write Telugu. This is a big achievement for such a small community,” Dr Achaiah says.
For eight years running, they have been organising an annual “moral camp” for children and youths aged between eight and 16.
“Up to 400 people sign up each year for the three-week camp. We teach participants basic Telugu and introduce them to traditional games and art forms. It’s open to everyone. Sometimes we even have foreign students come over on exchange programmes to join the camp.” The association plans to establish a foundation to promote and preserve the Telugu culture and language, and take care of the community’s education needs.

Chiratthalu, a traditional stick dance, is usually performed during village festivals.

Also in the pipeline is a cultural centre and museum in Rawang, Selangor, that will double as a research base for Telugu scholars.
“The heritage celebration marks the 150 years since the Telugus set foot in the country but we are also celebrating the diversity that unites Malaysians,” Dr Achaiah says.
“We fully support our PM’s concept of 1Malaysia. After all this time in the country, we don’t belong to India – we belong to Malaysia and our heritage is part and parcel of its heritage.”

కళా రాత్రి(Cultural Night) is an annual activity organized by TAM Bagan Datoh Branch Youths in collaboration with Telugu students from Bagan Datoh area. It has been held successfully for such a long time. Initially the show was run by students themselves with the help of ex-students. As day passes, TAM Bagan Datoh Branch Youths joined hand to add more beauty to the concert. The show will be fully in Telugu with beautiful performances which includes cultural dances, modern dances, drama, and songs.

For this time, this “Cultural Night” is going to be held on 2nd October 2010 at Sri Venkateswara Devasthana Hall, Sungai Sumun in conjuction with the “An Evening with Prime Minister” which is scheduled just six days before the mega-event in PICC, Putrajaya. Another history was created by the Telugu Association of Malaysia on the 26th August 2010. This time its not about meeting the prime minister or being granted hundreds of thousands of ringgits. Its all about launching a stamp. Yes, a stamp bearing the image of 150 Years Malaysian Telugu Heritage with the word "తెలుగు ధనం" embeeded on top of it. "తెలుగు ధనం" which means "Wealth of Malaysian Telugus" in the sense of language, culture and tradition is the theme for the "150 Years Malaysian Telugu Heritage Celebration" or better known as "An Evening with Prime Minister" which is going to be held on 8th October 2010 from 11am-11pm at PICC, Putrajaya. The stamp was launched by Y.B. Dato' Joseph Salang Anak Gandum, Deputy Minister of Information, Communication and Culture of Malaysia.

Largest gathering of Telegus

KUALA LUMPUR: The Telugu Association of Malaysia (TAM) is organising what is billed as the largest gathering of Telugus in the country on Oct 8.

It will be known as “An Evening with the Prime Minister” as the event is to show support for the 1Malaysia concept started by Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The one-day gathering will be held at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

TAM president Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao said the highlights would include an expo and cultural performances by local and foreign artistes. About 10,000 Telugus are expected to turn up.

Najib and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Sri Konijeti Rosaiah Garu will be the guests of honour.

Varalakshmi Vrathamu

On the 20th June 2010, TAM Bagan Datoh Branch Mahilas have succesfully held "Varalakshmi Vrathamu" at Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu. This event is an annual activity organised by TAM Bagan Datoh Branch Mahilas targetting the women around Bagan Datoh Area to perform an important Pooja invoking the blessings of Lakshmi on them, their husbands and their children.

For this time, around 50 women have participated in the Pooja out of around 100 people who have turned around for the event. Upon completing the Pooja in around an hour time, dinner was served. The dinner was prepared by all Bagan Datoh Branch Mahilas where each of them cook one type of food or sweets at home and brought it to temple to be shared among everyone who was present on that day.

TAM Bagan Datoh Branch Mahilas would like to take this oppurtunity to thank all those who have contributed directly or indirectly in making the "Varalakshmi Vrathamu" a succesfull event. May Lord Lakshmi bless everyone with health, wealth and prosperity.

Varalakshmi Vratam is an important pooja performed by many women.The Hindu festival going by the name 'Vara Lakshmi Vrata' is celebrated on the last Friday of the bright fortnight in the month of Ashadha, also called Adi, which corresponds to the English months of July-August.

Significance
Eight forces or energies are recognised and they are known as Sri (Wealth), Bhu (Earth), Sarasvati (learning), Priti (love), Kirti (Fame), Santi (Peace), Tushti(Pleasure) and Pushti(Strength). Each one of these forces is called a Lakshmi and all the eight forces are called the Ashta Lakshmis or the eight Lakshmis of the Hindus. Vishnu is also called Ashta Lakshmi Padhi which is equivalent to saying that he is the asylum for the eight-Lakshmis or forces. In fact, Vishnu representing the preservative aspect of the universe, radiates these forces from him. These forces are personified and worshipped as Lakshmis, since abstract force is beyond the comprehension of the ordinary people. As health, wealth and prosperity depend upon the rythmic play of these forces, the worship of Lakshmi is said to be to obtain these three. Only a woman can sympathise with women. Lakshmi is a woman. So she will more readily sympathise with women. Hence this festival is observed largely by women, invoking the blessings of Lakshmi on them, their husbands and their children.

Legend
As the legend goes, this is a pooja that was pronounced by no other than Lord Parameswara to be performed by his consort Parvathi to seek prosperity and happiness for the family. Thus it came to be emulated by married women who sought boons (varam) for the health, wealth and knowledge for the entire family. In some cases, women prayed for being blessed with children. The prescribed day for the pooja is the Friday of the month of Sravan in the fortnight known as Sukla paksha, preceding the full moon day.

Story
On one occasion, Parvati and Parameswara were engaged in a game of chess. Parvati was winning game after game, but Parameswara is said to have claimed the victory at each games, wantonly, to her intense chagrin. So Parvati wanted to have an umpire and one Chitranemi, a creation of Parameswara, was chosen. As an underling of Parameswara, he sided with him most unjustly. This provoked Parvati's anger and she cursed Chitranemi that he should become a leper for discharging his duty in most unfair manner.

When Chitranemi begged Parvati's forgiveness and Parameswara added his entreaties to it, she is said to have relented and modified the curse by adding that he would be cured of his leprosy by observing the Vara Lakshmi Vrata. By doing this Chitranemi was, it is said, rid of the loathsome disease.

The history of the origin Of the Vara Lakshmi Vrata is rather interesting. Lakshmi is said to have visited a pious woman by name Sarmadi, living in the city of Kuntinapura in Magadha (Bihar), in in one of her dreams and expressed her satisfaction at her devotion to her children. When she woke UP from her sleep, she took a bath and worshipped Lakshmi to ensure her blessings. When the other ladies heard of her dream and her worship of Lakshmi, they too began to worship her, and the custom is then said to have spread everywhere throughout the land in course of time.

History
In the kingdom of Magadha of yore, there lived a brahmin woman called Charumathi in a town named Kundina. The prosperous town was the home of Charumathi and her husband. She devotedly served her husband and her parents-in-law. Impressed by her piety, Goddess Mahalakshmi appeared in her dream and asked her to worship Vara-Lakshmi (literally, boon granting - goddess of wealth) and seek to fulfill her wishes. Varalakshmi is yet another form of Lord Vishnu's consort, Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Thus was prescribed the Friday of Sravana month preceding the full moon day for the worship.

When Charumathi explained her dream to her family, she found them encouraging her to perform the pooja. Many other women of the town also joined her in performing the pooja in a traditional way and offered many sweet dishes to the Goddess Varalakshmi. They prayed with deep devotion:

"Padmaasane Padmakare sarva lokaika poojithe

Narayana priyadevi supreethaa bhava sarvada"

The well dressed women made offerings of delicious feast with utmost devotion. As they went round the deity in prayer, dazzling jewelry is said to have appeared as ornaments on the bodies of these worshippers and their houses filled with riches. They rewarded the priest who assisted them in performing the pooja and they all partook in the feast. The women expressed their gratitude to Charumathi who shared her dream and helped them become prosperous. This pooja came to be practiced year after year by women. Done with devotion, it is said that boons would be granted and thus many wishes would be realized.

This pooja can be done with no restriction to caste or creed. To this day, the faithful of modern times observe this tradition.

After the launch of "An Evening with Prime Minister" roadshow on 27th June 2010 in Bagan Datoh Branch, the next stop of the nation wide roadshow was in the Simpang Empat Branch and Sitiawan Branch. On behalf of Bagan Datoh Branch, our Chairman, Sri Ramanaidu Ramaloo and few youths led by our Youth Leader, Sri Venggataraman has joined in the roadshow with the aim of explaining the significance of the mega-event and to remind the Simpang Empat and Sitiawan Telugu folks to fulfill their responsibility as an Malaysian Telugu which is to safeguard our beautiful and sweet Telugu language. The event was organised by the National Youths in collaboration with the respective Branch's Youth Wing. On 27th June 2010, the National Youths of Telugu Association of Malaysia have kicked off its Malaysian wide road show at the Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu. The main aim of the road show is to explain to the Telugus all around Malaysia about the “An Evening with Prime Minister” event on 8th October 2010 as well as about the 6180 Telugu Code for the 2010 Malaysian Census which is going to be held soon. Bagan Datoh Branch was chosen as to host the first destination of the road show as this is the place where Telugu Association of Malaysia was born almost six decades ago.

The road show in Bagan Datoh Branch was started with offering of prayers to Sri Venkateswara Swami. Prayers were conducted by priest followed by a half an hour bhajan with the aim of getting swami’s blessings before kicking off the road show. Lunch was served after the prayers.

Soon after that, Sri Ramanaidu, Chairman of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch welcomed everyone through his welcoming speech followed by very energetic speech by Sri Venggataraman, Youth Leader of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch, Srimati Thanalechumy, Mahila Leader of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch and also Sri Venkat Ramanaidu, National Youth Chief of TAM.

The road show was then launched by cutting off a banner and handing off banners to few branch chaimen and youth leaders. The launching ceremony was done by Sri Madhini Somunaidu, one of the founder member of TAM and Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao, President of TAM along with his CWC members.

After that, Sri GT Letchu, Deputy President of TAM who is also the organizing committee chairman for the “An Evening with Prime Minister” event explained to the huge crowd about the major event. There were also few speakers who spoke about how we can show the huge crowd for the major event and also reminded everyone about their responsibilities. All the speakers were past leaders of TAM. Sri Ramanaidu also announced that few members have come forward to sponsor busses to ferry Telugus to the event. Then, Dr Achaiah handed over some financial aid to the fire victims on behalf of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch.

Finally, the much anticipated speech from our energetic and dynamic President of TAM, Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao. He gave a very inspiring speech and reminded us of our responsibilities. Then, he handed over some financial aid to the fire victims on behalf of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch.

Honorable Prime Minister's Visit to Bagan Datoh Parliament Constituency

The Honorable Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd. Najib bin Tun Razak made a 1 day work visit to Bagan Datoh Parliament constituency on 20th June 2010.

In conjunction with that, 15 of our branch Youths led by Sri Venggataraman, Youth Chairman of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch have smartly dressed in Youth Corporate Shirt and gathered to welcome the honorable prime minister to Bagan Datoh with the aim of showing our presence to him. Sri Mahendra Rao, TAM National Youth Deputy Chief also joined with us. Here is a short narration of what have we experienced throughout the day.

We gathered at the Hutan Melintang Secondary school early in the morning as it is the place where the helicopter which the honorable prime minister was flying in will land. While waiting for him, we met the Perak State Assemblyman for Rungkup Constituency, YB Shaarani Mohamad and took a group photo with him. Then, Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi who is the Defence Minister of Malaysia and Parliament Member of Bagan Datoh Constituency arrived at the school. We greeted him and took a group picture with him. Soon after that, the Perak Menteri Besar, YAB Dato’ Seri Zambry Kadir arrived and when we greet him and introduce ourselves as the Youths of Telugu Association of Malaysia, he replied ‘oh, mana Dato’ Seri Zahid?, Bapa Telugu Malaysia’. Dato’ Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi heard that and said ‘ya laa, saya memang bapa telugu malaysia’ in a proud tone.

Greeting the Honorable Prime Minister

In a short while, two helicopters landed on the field of Hutan Melintang Secondary School. As soon as the Honorable Prime Minister gets down from the helicopter, we were among the first to greet him, introduce ourselves and welcome him to Bagan Datoh. After that, we have joined the convoy of cars and motorbike along with the Prime Minister’s car to Dewan UMNO Simpang Empat, where the Bagan Datoh UMNO Delegate Meeting was held. After that, we followed the prime minister to Bagan Datoh, where he launched the NGV Tech Ship Dockyard. Next stop was Bagan Sungai Tiang, Selekoh where the honorable Prime Minister met the Chinese.

And the final destination was Dewan Sanmarka Orang India in Simpang Empat where he met the Indians. Hundreds of our Branch Telugus joined with us there. The Chairman of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch, Sri K.R.Ramanaidu was given the opportunity to garland and honor the Honorable Prime Minister. He also submitted a memorandum about our needs to the prime minister. As the day was father’s Day, The Honorable Prime Minister wished Happy Fathers Day in Tamil. Soon after that, he said ‘ Bagi Bapa-Bapa dari Masyarakat Telugu pula, Thandri Thina Shubakankshalu’. We were so surprised as the nation number one leader was wishing us in our sweet language. It was unbelievable. The prime minister also gave away financial aid to the 5 Telugu families who were victims of a unfortunate fire incident on 7th June 2010.

Even though we were exhausted, we were so happy that we have succeeded in making our presence being felt by the Prime Minister and also by other nation leaders. It is proved since the Honorable Prime Minister himself has wished us in our very own sweet language. This is a positive feedback from the prime minister and it definitely gave us a confidence boost for our major event, ‘An Evening with Prime Minister’. Our special thanks to Sri Jami Kanayya, TAM Bagan Datoh Branch Committee Member who is also the MIC Bagan Datoh Division Deputy Chairman as well as to Sri Jegathees Rao Mariah, our branch Youth's Treasurer who is also the Ketua Pemuda MIC Bahagian Bagan Datoh for giving us information and helping us in getting a very good oppurtunity to garland and send a memorandum to the Honorable Prime Minister.

Note: We would like to highlight that we are never politically motivated and it doesn’t bring us any political benefits. The Telugu Association will benefit from this. The Malaysian Telugus will benefit from this. No matter which party do the prime minister belongs to, he is the Prime Minister of the day and we sought after him to make our presence being felt so that we were not leaved aside by the government in the nation development.

The National Youths of Telugu Association of Malaysia is kicking-off its nationwide roadshow and campaign on the much anticipated event, 'An Evening with Prime Minister'. The first destination, of course the birth place of Telugu Association of Malaysia, Bagan Datoh. TAM President, Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao is expected to launch the roadshow along with other CWC members. The roadshow which is more like a briefing session about the master event of the year will be held as follows;

Members from nearer branches are also expected to join in the briefing session. Those attending will also be entertained by songs and dance. Lunch will be served. The heat of the 'An Evening with Prime Minister' event has begun.

Fire Victims Donation Drive

On an unfortunate fire incident on 7th Jun 2010, five Telugu families have lost their houses respectively. Out of the five houses, four houses has fully engulfed in the fire while another one half damaged by the fire. They couldn’t save any of the belongings as the fire spread too fast.

The victims are life-members of TAM. TAM Bagan Datoh Branch had launched an immediate donation drive for the fire victims. We sincerely hope that all of us can step forward to contribute as much as we can to our Telugu brothers and sisters who had been victims of the unfortunate incident. An Evening of Malaysian Telugus with the Prime Minister of Malaysia

This event is a brainchild of Telugu Association of Malaysia. It is a platform for us to show our unity and the uniqueness of our culture and tradition to our beloved Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Razak. A 10,000 odd Malaysian Telugus is expected to gather so that it would be a strong foundation for our leaders to forward our demands to safeguard our beautiful Telugu language, culture and tradition in Malaysia.

It is a history that for the first time ever, the Malaysian Prime Minister has granted an audience with all of us, the Malaysian Telugus. Not only that, our President, Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao himself has assured that those who attend the event will also be entertained by famous and high-profile artists from India as well as our local artistes.

Let us steal a few hours of our precious time on 8th October 2010 to gather at PICC and show our great force and great unity to our prime minister. Let us all show him the uniqueness of our sweet Telugu language, culture and tradition. Let us show how great the force of our unity is.

Let us make the difference. Let us create history. It is all in our hand. It is our responsibilty.

Our unity and support for this event will definitely bring a massive impact to our restless effort of safeguarding our Telugu language, culture, tradition and generation in Malaysia.

The Treasurer of Bagan Datoh Branch's Youth Wing, Sri Jegathees Rao Mariah has concluded his matrimonial ceremony with his sweetheart, Srimati Jegatheswary today at Dewan Perbandaran Teluk Intan. It was indeed a well planned and beautiful marriage ceremony. Sri Jegathees Rao is also the Ketua Pemuda MIC Bahagian Bagan Datoh. His father, Late Sri Pakalapetti Mariah was a very active member of Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch. All his life, he has contributed much to the association as well as to the Sri Venkateswara Alayamu, Sungai Sumun.

Mother’s day is here again on 9th May 2010. Well, the very common and main significance of we celebrating mother’s day is to honour not only our mothers but to celebrate and honour the glorious ideal of love and sacrifices called motherhood.

In conjuction with the Mother’s Day, a celebration was organized by the woman (mahila) wing of Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch. About 100 people mostly the older generation mothers turned out for the celebration. The celebration started with the singing of Telugu Thalli song followed by lighting up of ‘theepam’. Opening and welcoming speech was given by Srimati Thanalechumy Anandha Rao, Mahila Chairwoman of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch, Sri Ramulu Appana, Hon.Secretary of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch followed by Sri Venggataraman, Youth Chairman of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch. Then, kumari Srivindiya Ramanaidu entertained the crowd by singing a song titled ‘pedave palikina maatalone’ and reciting a poem titled ‘amma’

Then, a few games were held for the mothers as well as the fathers who participate in the celebration. All the mothers especially those in their golden age enjoyed playing the games.

Then, prize giving ceremony was held. After that, six old women who are financially disabled were given groceries as a token of appreciation a small help from the TAM Bagan Datoh Mahilas. Only four of them turn out to the celebration as the other two having some health problem. However, our Mahilas have taken the effort to send the groceries straight to their house.

In the celebration also, three of this branch’s active mahilas were honoured for the services to the association, temple as well to the society. They are Srimati Pentammah NB Subramaniam, Srimati Jagathiswary Ramanaidu and Srimati Vasandharah Venkitasamy.

Celebration ends at 1.30pm followed by lunch. The lunch was prepared by our Branch’s Mahila Committee members themselves. They started to cook from 6’o clock in the early morning. Thank you to them for preparing such a delicious food for us. Well, when each and every one of the Mahila Committee Members gather their hand, it make the food more delicious. The committee members had also provided transportation to those old mothers with transport problems.

All the mothers who participate enjoyed the celebration especially the old mothers. They seem to be happy mingling with each other and sharing their old stories to others.

The Telugu Association of Malaysia’s National Youths has successfully held the ’1 Malaysia, 1 Telugu Convoy‘ from TSN,Rawang to Genting Highlands. About 100 youths from all over the branches participated in the convoy in 23 cars. On behalf of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch, 11 youths have joined the convoy in three cars. They are

Here is a summary of what we had experienced in the convoy chronologically.

1st May 2010
4.30am- We started our journey from Bagan Datoh to TSN, Rawang. We stopped a while at Kuala Selangor to have a cup of tea. Youths from Simpang Empat Branch joined us there. We resumed our journey together with the Simpang Empat Branch Youths after having some discussions and sharing jokes. We stopped a while in Rawang Toll Rest Area to fresh up. Then we resumed our journey to TSN.
8.00am- We reached TSN, Rawang. We had our breakfast, then registered ourselves and bought the convoy T-Shirt. All our 11 youths who participated were smartly dressed in Youth’s Corporate Shirt. Our Branch’s Youth Chairman bought the convoy cap for all of us. Thank you to him. We took our place in the hall and listened to the speeches by Mr Athinarayana Rao, Mr Vengkat Ramanaidu, Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao and also the newly elected member of parliament of Hulu Selangor, YB P.Kamalanathan. Our Branch’s Youth Treasurer, Mr Jegathees Rao who is also the Ketua Pemuda MIC Bahagian Bagan Datoh took the opportunity to garland YB P.Kamalanathan.
11.00am- YB P.Kamalanthan flags off the TAM Youth 1 Malaysia, 1 Telugu Convoy from TSN, Rawang. Our first stop was in Batu Caves, Selangor. We had our lunch in the canteen of SJK(T) Batu Caves. Then we resumed our convoy after our lunch.

2.30pm- We reached our apartments in Genting Highlands. Mr Vengkat Ramanaidu and Mr Mahendra Rao briefed us about the programme as well as the rules and regulations that need to be adhered. We get into our apartments and get to know with other Youths from different branches. Then, all of us went 4 swimming. We played a game which seems to be like 'water polo' but eventually turned more aggressive like‘water rugby’. However, we enjoyed playing together with other branch’s youths.

7.30pm – Went to Genting Highland’s Sri Kaliamman Temple. We joined in the prayers and also in the Bhajan. After the bhajan, few of our Branch Youths together with few of other branch youths helped to serve food to all the participants. Thank you to the temple’s committee for arranging the things very well for us.
10.00pm- We were back to our apartments. We went to a conference room. There, brainstorming session was held. Mr Venkat and Mr Mahen talked bout few important things about developing Telugu Youths as well as efficient leadership. They were also a few topics which were selected to be debated. Almost every one of the participants had participated in the debate and gave their opinion. During intervals, a few youths took the opportunity to make some jokes and make everyone to laugh. Among the youths were our branch’s youth vice chairman, Mr Vengkateswara Rao.

2nd May 2010
2.00am- The end of talk for that day. We went to a restaurant to have a cup of tea after the session had finished and then we went back to our respective apartments to sleep.

8.00am- We had our breakfast and headed to the conference room. There, we were divided in groups. Group discussions were held and every one of the Youths talked about their respective subject. Two youths from Bagan Datoh Branch, Mr Srinevasa Rao and Mr Nageshwara Rao won the quiz contest that was conducted a day earlier.

1.00pm- We had our lunch and pack up our things from our apartments. Photography session were held and then we make a move back to Bagan Datoh. Two cars from Sitiawan Branch Youths and one car from Simpang Empat Branch Youths joined together with us in our journey back home.

7.00pm- We reached Simpang Empat and we had our dinner at a restaurant here. Simpang Empat Branch’s Youths and Mr Mahen also joined us for the dinner.

Blood Donation and Free Health Checkup Campaign a Big Success!

Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch Youths has successfully held its 11th consecutive Blood Donation Drive and Free Health Checkup today in collaboration with blood transfusion unit of Hospital Teluk Intan and Hospital Tapah. About 50 people donated blood while 100 others had their medical checkup. The campaign was officiated by Mr Khairudin, Special Officer to the Malaysian Defence Minister, Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

We on behalf on Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch would like to extend our special thanks to Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Mr Muralee, MIC Perak Youth Chief for their generosity. We would like to extend our thanks also to medical personnel from Hospital Teluk Intan and Hospital Teluk Intan and also to TAM Sitiawan Branch Youths for participating in this programme. Thanks to all those who participate and those who gave moral support to us to make this campaign a successful one.

While the most obvious health benefit of donating blood is the wonderful feeling derived from giving something vital to someone who needs it, the benefits of donating blood may extend far beyond this to having a positive impact on the donor's health.

Studies have shown that, in general, Malaysians tend to consume more iron on a daily basis than is necessary for good health. Ingestion of quantities of iron beyond a certain quantity can promote formation of free radicals in the body. Free radicals have justly earned their reputation for causing cellular changes which can disrupt normal cell function and increase the risk of certain chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. This is more likely to be a problem for men and post menopausal women since women of child bearing age shed excess iron through regular menstrual cycles. If a person happens to be a red meat eater, the risk for iron overload can be even higher.

How does blood donation help with iron overload? Blood donation removes some of the excess iron which can cause free radical formation in the body. In fact, studies have shown that men who donate blood on a regular basis have a lower risk of heart disease. With heart disease being the number one cause of death in males, this is, indeed, an important health benefit of donating blood.

How can you be sure you're not giving away too much iron? Before you're allowed to donate blood, your hemoglobin level, a rough measure of your iron levels, will be checked. If it's deemed too low, you won't be allowed to donate that day. Your hemoglobin level will be monitored closely every time you present for donation and you'll only be allowed to donate every eight weeks to prevent too much iron from being removed from your body. It's a free and easy way to keep track of your iron levels.

When you consider the potential health benefits of giving blood along with the joy of giving to others in need, it's no wonder the donation of blood has become so popular. An hour spent relaxing in a chair every two months is all it takes to benefit both your health and the health of a lucky recipient. 8. The final decision on Scholarship is by Masterskill College of Nursing and Health(MUCH)

9. Parents /Guardians of the student must be a life member of TAM for minimum of ONE (1)year to eligible for this scholarship application.

10. Amount of the scholarship award will be decided by MUCH and TAM.

11. Application for scholarship is NOT an automatic award for scholarship.

12. TAM will send letter for students not successful in the application within 45 days from the deadline for April and July intake.

1. SPM
· The candidate should have achieved at least 7As (A+ / A / A- are considered in the selection criteria)
2. STPM
· The candidate should have achieved at least minimum 2As.

GENERAL CRITERIA:
· Students sat for the year 2009 SPM & STPM examination are only eligble for the award
· Parent/s or guardian should be a TAM live member for at least one year. Guardian is only considered if the parents have expired.
· Membership of parent/s should be prior to the examinations of the candidate.
· All the applications should come through their respective TAM Branches.
· Final selection will be done by HQ Education Committee and the prize money will be awarded accordingly.
· A copy of SPM / STPM result & IC shall be enclosed together with the application form.
· All result slips and forms should be endorsed by TAM Branch Chairmen/Secretary.
· Application which does not comply for any of the above requirements will be rejected

Ugadhi Celebration in Bagan Datoh Branch

Bagan Datoh Branch has recently held its Branch Level Ugadhi Celebration on 16th March 2010 at Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu, Sungai Sumun. About 400 people participated in the event. The celebration started at 7.00pm with the offering of special prayers to Sri Venkateswara Swamy followed by bhajan and ubhayams. Then, Sri Ramanaidu Ramaloo, Chairman of Bagan Datoh Branch gave a speech followed by Sri D.V.Sri Ramulu who spoke about the significance of Ugadhi and how to celebrate Ugadhi. After that, annathanam was served. Traditional Telugu food and sweets like ‘garulu’, ‘burulu’, ‘aresulu’, ‘ladoo’ were also served. The most important dish which has to be served on Ugadhi day is the 'ugadhi paccadhi’. It was also served to the crowd. The crowd enjoyed the food. During the event, a birthday celebration was held for Jaykirthana, a 3 years old girl whose parents are members of South Perak Branch. The best part of the small celebration was the birthday song which was sang fully in Telugu by the crowd.

Ugadhi Vaibhavamu Programme in Astro

In conjunction of Ugadhi, ASTRO has telecasted a one and a half an hour programme called ‘UGADHI VAIBHAVAM’. More than 50 percent of the shooting for the programme has taken place in Bagan Datoh Area. More than 50 Bagan Datoh Branch members and their children took part in the shooting. This is the first time TAM Bagan Datoh branch has been given the chance to perform for the programme. We on behalf of TAM Bagan Datoh would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the Telugu Association of Malaysia for giving us such a honour. We would like to thank the director and producer of the ‘UGADHI VAIBHAVAM’ as well for producing such a nice documentary for us. And without forgetting, thanks for all those who participate and help directly or indirectly in producing ‘UGADHI VAIBHAVAM’ successfully.

Ugadhi is the New Year's Day for the people of Andhra Pradesh and also for the Telugu people all over the world. This year, Ugadi falls on March 16,2010.

Significance of Ugadhi
It is believed that the creator of the Hindu pantheon Lord Brahma started creation on this day - Chaitra suddha padhyami or the Ugadi day. Also the great Indian Mathematician Bhaskaracharya's calculations proclaimed the Ugadi day from the sunrise on as the beginning of the new year, new month and new day. The onset of spring also marks a beginning of new life with plants (barren until now) acquiring new life, shoots and leaves. Spring is considered the first season of the year hence also heralding a new year and a new beginning. The vibrancy of life and verdent fields, meadows full of colorful blossoms signifies growth, prosperity and well-being.With the coming of Ugadi, the naturally perfumed jasmines (mallepulu) spread a sweet fragrance which is perhaps unmatched by any other in nature's own creation! While large garlands of jasmine are offered to Gods in homes and temples, jasmine flowers woven in clusters adorn the braids of women. Ugadi is thus a festival of many shades. It ushers in the new year, brings a rich bounce of flora and fills the hearts of people with joy and contentment!

Preparing For The Occasion
Preparations for the festival begin a week ahead. Houses are given a thorough wash. Shopping for new clothes and buying other items that go with the requirements of the festival are done with a lot of excitement.On Ugadi day, people wake up before the break of dawn and take a head bath after, which they decorate, the entrance of their houses with fresh mango leaves. The green mango leaves tied to the doorway signify a good crop and general well being. It is noteworthy that one uses mango leaves and coconuts (as in a 'Kalasam', to initiate any puja) only on auspicious occasions to propitiate gods.People also splash fresh cow dung water on the ground in front of their house and draw colourful floral designs. This is a common sight in every household. People perform the ritualistic worship to God invoking his blessings before they start off with the New Year. They pray for their health, wealth and prosperity and success in business too. Ugadi is also the most auspicious time to start new ventures.

Ingredients
Neem Buds/Flowers for bitterness
Raw Mango for tang
Tamarind Juice for sourness
Green Chilli/Pepper for heat
Jaggery and ripe banana pieces for sweetness
Pinch of Salt for saltiness

This mixture with all six tastes (షడ్రుచులు), called ugadi Pachhadi (ఉగాది పచ్చడి) in Telugu symbolizes the fact that life is a mixture of different experiences (sadness, happiness, anger, fear, disgust, surprise) , which should be accepted together and with equanimity. All experiences have to be treated with equanimity. Every one should make a resolve that he will face calmly whatever happens in this year, accepting it with good grace and welcoming everything. Consider everything as for one's own good. Men should rise above sorrow and happiness, success and failure. This is the primary message of the Ugadi festival.

This Satyanarayana Swami Vrathamu is usually done for a better bonding of a family. This pooja should be participated by both husband and wife. It will be held at 8.00am on that day. Mother’s day celebration by South Perak Branch Mahilas at Sri Vengkateswara Temple Hall, Sungai Sumun. A few games were carried out for mothers. Sarees and clothes were presented to the elderly women.

21st June 2008
Sarvadari Naama Ugadhi Cultural Night by South Perak Branch Youths at Dewan Cina, Selekoh. This cultural night was officiated by the President of Telugu Association of Malaysia, Dr Achiah Kumar Rao. Telugu students from South Perak Branch performed in this cultural night.

15th August 2008
Varalakshmi Pooja by South Perak Branch Mahilas at Sri Vengkateswara Temple, Sungai Sumun. More than 50 women participated in this pooja.

12th October 2008
Motivational Seminar for students. About 50 students participated in this Seminar. Mr Lakshmana, Mr A.Harinath Rao and Asst Secretary of Telugu Association of Malaysia, Mr ADR Naidu gave motivational speeches to the students.

28th December 2008
Family Day organized by South Perak Branch Youths. Several interesting games were carried out.

1st January 2009
A new year gathering was organized at Sri Vengkateswara Temple, Sungai Sumun. More than 120 members attended the gathering .

22nd March 2009
Blood Donation and Health Checkup Campaign by South Perak Branch Youths. It is the 10th Blood Donation Campaign organized by South Perak Branch Youths. This campaign was officiated by the President of Telugu Association of Malaysia, Dr Achiah Kumar Rao. About 50 people donated blood while 100 others had their medical checkup.

Virodhi Naama Ugadhi Cultural Night by South Perak Branch Youths at Dewan Cina, Selekoh. This cultural night was officiated by the former National Youth Chief of Telugu Association of Malaysia, Dato’ Kanta Rao. Telugu students from South Perak Branch and Sungai Siput performed in this cultural night.

National Level Divya Prabantha Devotional Contest jointly organized by South Perak Branch and the Telugu Association of Malaysia at Sri Rama Temple, Ladang Kuala Perak. About 200 contestants from various branches had participated in the Kerthanalu, Bhajanalu, Katha Poti, Chiratalu and Dhatu Bhajanalu contests

Lord Vengkateswara Maha Samprochavamu going to be held on January 22,2010 at the Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu, Kampung Teluk Baru, 36300 Sungai Sumun, Perak

The daily Maha Samprochana prayers will continue until March 6,2010

His divine Grace Lord Vishnu has taken several incarnations ( Avatars ) to safeguard humanity and to bestow his blessings on his devotees and worshippers.

Vengkateswara means the Lord who destroys the sins of people. According to the Hindi scriptures, Lord Vishnu out of love towards his devotees, incarnated as Lord Vengkateswara and appeared for the salvation and upliftment oh humanity in this kaliyuga and is considered the supreme form of Lord Vishnu in this age.

The deity is considered the kaliyuga Varda, that is 'the boon - granting Lord of kaliyuga'. For devotees and worshippers in Malaysia, his Lordship Sri Vengkateswara together with his consort Padmawati has taken abode at Sungai Sumun to bestow his divinely blessing on his devotees.
