Blood Donation and Free Health Checkup Campaign a Big Success!

Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch Youths has successfully held its 11th consecutive Blood Donation Drive and Free Health Checkup today in collaboration with blood transfusion unit of Hospital Teluk Intan and Hospital Tapah. About 50 people donated blood while 100 others had their medical checkup. The campaign was officiated by Mr Khairudin, Special Officer to the Malaysian Defence Minister, Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.










We on behalf on Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch would like to extend our special thanks to Dato’ Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Mr Muralee, MIC Perak Youth Chief for their generosity. We would like to extend our thanks also to medical personnel from Hospital Teluk Intan and Hospital Teluk Intan and also to TAM Sitiawan Branch Youths for participating in this programme. Thanks to all those who participate and those who gave moral support to us to make this campaign a successful one.

తల్లి దిన వేడుకలు / Mother’s Day Celebration

Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch’s Mahilas has successfully organized Mother’s Day Celebration anually since the year 2004. This year, another Mother’s Day Celebration is going to be held as follows;

Venue : Sri Venkateswara Devasthana Hall, Sungai Sumun, Perak

The objective of having this mother’s day celebration is;
1-To Honour mothers.
2-To Honour some of the active Mahilas in the branch.
3-To provide informations related to health and family to mothers.
4-To provide assistance in the form of groceries to poor and single mothers.
5-To honour the older generation mothers.
6-To make mothers happy by having fun-filled activities
7-To strengthen the bond between branch Mahilas

First Committee Meeting for the term 2010-2011

The first committee meeting of the Bagan Datoh Branch for the term 2010-2011 will be held on this friday (April 9,2010) at Branch office at 8.00pm. All main committee members, youth and mahila committee members have to attend the meeting. Attendance will be taken.

1 Malaysia 1 Telugu Convoy

Telugu Association of Malaysia's National Youths are organising 1 Malaysia 1 Telugu convoy from Telugu Samaskrutika Nilayam, Rawang to Fraser Hills on May 1,2010. This year another Blood Donation Drive and Free Medical Checkup is being organised by Bagan Datoh Branch Youths which is going to be held as follows;

It only takes about an hour out of your busy schedule and it may save a life. Donating blood may not only benefit the person who received the blood cells but may also improve the health of the donor. What are the potential health benefits of donating blood?

While the most obvious health benefit of donating blood is the wonderful feeling derived from giving something vital to someone who needs it, the benefits of donating blood may extend far beyond this to having a positive impact on the donor's health.

Studies have shown that, in general, Malaysians tend to consume more iron on a daily basis than is necessary for good health. Ingestion of quantities of iron beyond a certain quantity can promote formation of free radicals in the body. Free radicals have justly earned their reputation for causing cellular changes which can disrupt normal cell function and increase the risk of certain chronic diseases such as heart disease and cancer. This is more likely to be a problem for men and post menopausal women since women of child bearing age shed excess iron through regular menstrual cycles. If a person happens to be a red meat eater, the risk for iron overload can be even higher.

How does blood donation help with iron overload? Blood donation removes some of the excess iron which can cause free radical formation in the body. In fact, studies have shown that men who donate blood on a regular basis have a lower risk of heart disease. With heart disease being the number one cause of death in males, this is, indeed, an important health benefit of donating blood.

How can you be sure you're not giving away too much iron? Before you're allowed to donate blood, your hemoglobin level, a rough measure of your iron levels, will be checked. If it's deemed too low, you won't be allowed to donate that day. Your hemoglobin level will be monitored closely every time you present for donation and you'll only be allowed to donate every eight weeks to prevent too much iron from being removed from your body. It's a free and easy way to keep track of your iron levels.

When you consider the potential health benefits of giving blood along with the joy of giving to others in need, it's no wonder the donation of blood has become so popular. An hour spent relaxing in a chair every two months is all it takes to benefit both your health and the health of a lucky recipient. Somewhat out there someone is waiting for your generous gift of life.

Masterskill University College of Health providing scholarship for Telugu Students

Terms of Application

Applications for the scholarship must include the following documents:
a. Student hand written letter to apply scholarship.
b. Copy of Masterskill Offer Letter
c. Copy of Masterskill Application for Program
d. Copy of Student IC
e. Copy of SPM result duly certified.
f. Copy Parents IC
g. Letter of Confirmation from Branch Chairman/Secretary on parents membership
(Applications without full documents will not be entertained)

1. Scholarship will only given for April and July Intake.

2. Deadline for April Intake : 30th April to reach TAM Education Bureau

3. Deadline for July Intake : 31st July to reach TAM Education Bureau

4. Students from other intakes are not eligible.

5. Following minimum requirement is a must:
Passed Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia with:
a. Minimum credit (C6) in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Malaysia
b. Minimum credit (C6) in English
c. Minimum credit (C6) in any Mathematics subject
d. Minimum credit (C6) in any Science subject
e. Minimum credit (C6) in any other subject excluding Kesusasteraan (literature)

6. Applications only from fresh students who have enrolled into any of the following subjects :
· Diploma in Nursing
· Diploma in Pharmacy
· Diploma in Medical Imaging
· Diploma in Environmental Health
· Diploma in Physiotherapy
· Diploma in Medical Lab Technology
· Diploma in Healthcare
· Diploma in Health Informatics
· Diploma in Occupational Therapy
· Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health
· Diploma in Paramedic Science

7. Student must maintain CGPA of 3.3 at all times to continue to receive this scholarship.

8. The final decision on Scholarship is by Masterskill College of Nursing and Health(MUCH)

9. Parents /Guardians of the student must be a life member of TAM for minimum of ONE (1)year to eligible for this scholarship application.

10. Amount of the scholarship award will be decided by MUCH and TAM.

11. Application for scholarship is NOT an automatic award for scholarship.

12. TAM will send letter for students not successful in the application within 45 days from the deadline for April and July intake.

13. Successful candidate for the scholarship will be notified via letter/agreement by Masterskill

Telugu Association of Malaysia's Excellent Student Reward

CRITERIA FOR 2009 SPM/STPM ACHIEVERS FOR TAM EXCELLENT STUDENT REWARD

1. SPM
· The candidate should have achieved at least 7As (A+ / A / A- are considered in the selection criteria)
2. STPM
· The candidate should have achieved at least minimum 2As.

GENERAL CRITERIA:
· Students sat for the year 2009 SPM & STPM examination are only eligble for the award
· Parent/s or guardian should be a TAM live member for at least one year. Guardian is only considered if the parents have expired.
· Membership of parent/s should be prior to the examinations of the candidate.
· All the applications should come through their respective TAM Branches.
· Final selection will be done by HQ Education Committee and the prize money will be awarded accordingly.
· A copy of SPM / STPM result & IC shall be enclosed together with the application form.
· All result slips and forms should be endorsed by TAM Branch Chairmen/Secretary.
· Application which does not comply for any of the above requirements will be rejected
