Golden Jubilee Celebration of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch

It has been 50 years since the establishment of Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh Branch (formerly known as South Perak Branch). Established in 1961, our branch has organised numerous activities ranging from social works, cultural, educational, spiritual and many more activities in line with the mission, vision and objectives of Telugu Association of Malaysia which are mainly to promote, preserve and safeguard the Telugu language, economic, social, cultural and spiritual of the Telugus as well as to provide educational guidance to the Telugus. TAM Bagan Datoh Branch has been the major pillar of strength of Telugu Association of Malaysia and plays an important role in developing the association throughout the years since its establishment.

In conjunction with the 50th Anniversary of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch, we are proud to organise a Golden Jubilee Celebration to commemorate the fifty years of establishment of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch. The details of the celebration are as follows;

మనసున్న మనసు / Forum Hati ke Hati

On 10 April 2011, the Mahila committee of Telugu Association of Malaysia Bagan Datoh branch organized a “Forum Hati ke Hati” in collaboration with the Teluk Intan Information Department at Sri Venkateswara Alaya Devasthanamu, Sungai Sumun, Perak. The programme started at 9.00 am and garnered the attendance of more than 150 people. Encik Bala, Officer of the Information officiated  the function. There were also his team of officers and also officers from the Registry Department of Teluk Intan.  Among the officers are Encik Shan, Encik Haris, Encik Hawani and Cik Imma.  They had a counseling session with those who were having problems regarding their identification cards and documents. Puan Normah Elizan from the Head Office of the Information Department, Ipoh also attended and supervised the programme. The attendance of YB Dato’ Sharani, ADUN for the Rungkup consistuency  made this programme a more successful one. In his speech, he congratulated students who achieved outstanding results in their recent SPM examination. Several games were organized to entertain the audience. Among the games were colouring competition, ‘muggulu’ competition and balloon throwing competition. The programme ended at about 3.00pm.

Telugu Association of Malaysia Charitable Work

In conjunction with Ugadhi (Telugu new year), Telugu Association of Malaysia (TAM) donated to two Japan Tsunami Disaster Funds namely ‘The Japanese Tsunami Relief Fund’ and ‘Girls Guides-Maybank Disaster Relief Fund’. Both of the funds received RM 10,000 each. Datuk Seri Sharizat Abdul Jalil, the Women, Family and Community Development Minister of Malaysia accepted the cheques from TAM on behalf of the two funds during a ceremony at Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) on 2nd April 2011. Also present was Girl Guides Association of Malaysia KL branch president , Datuk Yeoh Soo Ken.

Apart from that, Datuk Seri Sharizat Abdul Jalil also presented hampers of food and daily necessaries which were donated by TAM to the patients in HKL wards.

Datuk Seri Sharizat Abdul Jalil congratulates and has mentioned that she is proud and happy of Telugu Association of Malaysia because even though Telugus form only a small community in Malaysia, yet they will be among the first to lend their hand to help in such charitable works.

Three Programs in three consecutive days

It has been a hectic weekend for Bagan Datoh branch folks with three programs being organised in three consecutive days. Here is the summary of the three programs.

On Saturday, 2nd of April 2011, TAM National Youths have organised a road show at Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu, Sungai Sumun to explain to the Bagan Datoh branch Telugus about the “TAM Youth Convention” program which is going to be held on 22nd May 2010 at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur. The road show was kicked off with offering of prayers to Sri Venkateswara Swami followed by bhajan and annathanam. Soon after that, Sri Venggataraman, the Youth Leader of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch has welcomed everyone that present in his speech followed by speeches from Sri Ramanaidu, chairman of TAM Bagan Datoh Branch and Sri Mahendra Rao, TAM Youth Chief. The road show then continues with Sri Govin Rao, TAM Youth Deputy Chief’s speech. Sri Govin Rao, who is also the organising chairman of the “Tam Youth Convention 2011” program explained in detail about the convention. Dr Achaiah Kumar Rao, TAM president also delivered his speech. In his speech, he has wished luck to the TAM Youth for their mission of gathering 3,000 Telugu youths for the program. He has also suggested to the TAM Youth to form a TAM Youth Fund by identifying at least one thousand well to do Telugu Youths who are capable of donating RM 1,000 each to the fund. He has also taken the opportunity to congratulate SPM and STPM top scorers from Bagan Datoh Branch. Finally all TAM leaders and ex-leaders were called onto the stage to complete the launching ceremony of the road show.

On Sunday, 3rd April 2011 at 8.30am, TAM Bagan Datoh Branch have organised Motivational Talks for students who are going to sit for UPSR, PMR and SPM examinations. Around 100 students participated in the motivational talk. Few well-knows and experienced teachers took turn in motivating the students by teaching them about the efficient way of studying, time management, preparation for examinations as well as reminding the students of their responsibilities as a student. Four students who have excelled in their SPM and STPM examinations respectively have also shared their secret of success with the students.

Apart from that, there was also a dialog session with District information officer, youths and parents. Some of those who were present took the opportunity to ask and clarify their problems on any matters related with government departments.

Ugadhi Celebration
On Monday, 4th April 2011 at 7.01am, around 250 people gathered at Sri Venkateswara Devasthanamu to celebrate “Ugadhi”, the new year of Telugus. Celebration begins with offering of prayers followed by bhajan. After that, pallaki procession was held followed by dhaatu bhajan by a large group of people. “Annathanam” was served. Without forgetting, delicious food especially Gaarulu, Buurulu, Ponggadalu, Aresulu, Payasam and most importantly Ugadhi Pacchadi were served. We would like to thank all Mahilas who took the trouble to cook the delicious food for us.
